Stephen Contag, MD
Stephen Contag, MD, is a Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Women’s Health in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School, where he serves as an active clinician at the University of Minnesota Medical Center and affiliated M Health Fairview hospitals. A board-certified Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist, he brings more than three decades of clinical, research, and teaching experience to the care of high-risk pregnancies, with expertise in prenatal ultrasound, perinatal epidemiology, and fetal growth restriction.
Dr. Contag trained at the Mayo Clinic, Brown University, and Wake Forest University, and has held faculty positions at Johns Hopkins, the University of Maryland, and Mayo Clinic. He is the author of 46 peer-reviewed publications and an NIH-funded investigator whose research addresses hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, congenital infections, and maternal health disparities. He is actively involved in efforts to expand syphilis testing in pregnancy to prevent congenital syphilis, and in raising community awareness of cytomegalovirus (CMV) and its impact on fetal health.
A dedicated educator, he regularly presents at national and international conferences and is a recipient of the National Faculty Award from CREOG/ACOG and multiple institutional teaching honors. He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
