Transforming Maternal Health Model Project Director

Sarah Gareau, DrPH, MEd, MCHES
Dr. Gareau is currently the Project Director for the Transforming Maternal Health Model Program within the MN Department of Human Services Office of Medicaid Medical Director. For over a decade, through her role at the University of South Carolina Institute for Families in Society Division of Integrated Health and Policy Research, she supported the data efforts of SC’s perinatal quality collaborative (SCBOI) and AIM initiatives with a focus on maternal health safety in partnership with the SC Department of Health & Human Services Medicaid program. She seeks to advance maternal & child health through applied research centered on health services & health policy, program development and evaluation, and collaborative community engagement. She was a member of SC’s HRSA-funded maternal health innovation leadership team and a co-investigator on two PCORI grants focused on improving postpartum outcomes through doula coverage and enhanced screening. Lastly, she was awarded a Voices of Public Health Award for her outreach and advocacy during the COVID-19 pandemic, and she previously served as an elected member of the Executive Board of the American Public Health Association.
