Transforming Maternal Health Model Project Director

Sarah Gareau, DrPH, MEd, MCHES

Dr. Sarah Gareau joined MN DHS as the new TMaH Project Director from the University of South Carolina’s Institute for Families in Society, where she served as Director of Health Services Research and Policy in the Division of Integrated Health and Policy Research. In that role, for over a decade, Dr. Gareau supported the data efforts of SC’s perinatal quality collaborative (SCBOI) and AIM initiatives with a focus on maternal health equity in partnership with the SC Department of Health & Human Services Medicaid program. She led a multidisciplinary team focused on advancing maternal and child health through applied research centered on health services and policy, program development and evaluation, and community engagement. She was awarded a Voices of Public Health Award for her outreach and advocacy during the COVID-19 pandemic, and she previously served as an elected member of the Executive Board of the American Public Health Association.
