Niema Ismael is the founder and Executive Director of Women’s Wellness and Parenting Support Center, a Minnesota nonprofit providing outpatient mental health services and community programs. She has built six programs from needs Somali women named themselves. Dareen Circle is the first survivor-led program in Minnesota addressing female genital cutting, childbirth injury, and related harm. Infant and I supports maternal mental health and parenting. Let’s Heal Hooyo and Circle of Healing are group spaces for emotional healing. Niema’s background is counseling psychology, alcohol and drug studies, curriculum development, and program evaluation. Her work targets maternal mental health inequities for Somali women and women of color.
