Kathy Girdler, BSN, RN, PHN

Kathy brings 31 years of experience as a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, including 10 years in hospital settings such as the Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Room, Post-Anesthesia Care, and Endoscopy. For the past 21 years, she has served at Polk County Public Health in roles including staff RN/PHN, Lead Coordinator, and now Nursing Supervisor. She began her public health career with postpartum and newborn home visits, later expanding to support families with children who have special health needs. Home visiting and collaboration with community partners have remained central to her work.
In her current role, Kathy oversees programs including Family Home Visiting, Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), Breastfeeding Peer Support, School Health, Child Passenger Safety, Head Start/Childcare Nurse Consulting, and Environmental Health High Lead Case Management. She also serves as the Follow Along Program Coordinator, Co-Chair for the Region 1 Interagency Early Childhood Interagency Committee, and a key contact for Minnesota Department of Health referrals related to Children and Youth with Special Health Needs. Most recently, she completed training to support the Maternal Early Childhood Sustained Home Visiting (MECSH) program as a Nurse Supervisor.
