LINK Initiative Hospital Teams, Faculty, and Presenters – Thank You

We recently concluded the final session of the active phase of the Linking Identification & Navigation for Perinatal Mental Health & Substance Use Care (LINK) Initiative. During this session, hospital teams from across the state came together to share both their successes and challenges in supporting the patients they serve.

As these teams transition into the maintenance phase over the next year, focusing on sustaining and building on the practices developed during the Initiative, we want to express our sincere gratitude. Thank you for your time, dedication, and commitment to improving care for patients affected by substance use and mental health concerns.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the LINK faculty for their guidance and expertise, and to all the presenters who generously shared their knowledge to inform, educate, and inspire meaningful change.

Perinatal Health Professional Spotlight Series: Dr. Rivera-Chiauzzi

In MNPQC’s new Perinatal Health Professional Spotlight series, providers, doulas, and community advocates share their insights on supporting families, not only as professionals, but also as individuals with lived experiences that inform their care. In her spotlight, Dr. Enid Yvette Rivera-Chiauzzi emphasizes the importance of advocacy, effective communication, and building trusting relationships.

Don’t Miss MNPQC at the Many Faces of Community Health Conference

Join us on Thursday, October 2, as Rachel Pilliod, MNPQC Board Chair, and Cassie Mohawk, Communications and Outreach Manager, present at the Many Faces of Community Health Conference. Their breakout session, “Improving Maternal Health: What Can We Do To Help?”, highlights how MNPQC’s community-centered approach enhances perinatal care both inside and outside clinical settings. The session will explore how collaborative, statewide efforts, like the Perinatal Resource Map and tailored QI programs, are shaping respectful, accessible, and effective care for Minnesota families.

We are counting down the days until our 2025 Perinatal Improvement Summit. The summit offers an “All Teach, All Learn” opportunity to share education, resources, and expertise, fostering connections across disciplines and hospitals to enhance perinatal health outcomes for Minnesota families.

Obstetrical Hemorrhage COL – Launching September 2025

There’s still time to register for MNPQC’s Obstetrical Hemorrhage Community of Learning (COL)! In just a few days, this QI program will bring together hospital teams from across Minnesota to strengthen preparedness for obstetric hemorrhage. The program aims to enhance the number of Minnesota birthing facilities equipped with the training, standardized protocols, and resources necessary for the effective identification, prevention, and management of obstetric hemorrhage.

September is Sepsis Awareness Month

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that occurs when the body’s response to infection damages its own organs and tissues. Maternal sepsis can develop during pregnancy, childbirth, or the postpartum period, especially when infections go undetected or untreated, and it can affect any pregnant person. Raising awareness about maternal sepsis can save lives and lead to better outcomes for mothers and babies. Let’s spread the word and advocate for safer pregnancies everywhere.

ACOG Perinatal Mental Health Tool Kit

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are among the most common complications that occur in pregnancy or in the first 12 months after delivery. Despite the negative effects on maternal, obstetric, birth, offspring, partner, and family outcomes, perinatal mental health disorders often remain underdiagnosed, and untreated or under-treated. To support OB-GYNs and other healthcare professionals in addressing perinatal mental health conditions, ACOG developed the Perinatal Mental Health Toolkit.
