The National Indian Health Board (NIHB) is excited to announce its 2026 Tribal Public Health Webinar Series! This session is titled “Maternal Health in Indian Country.” This webinar will explore how environmental exposures and climate-related conditions such as extreme heat, drought, and water insecurity can affect maternal and newborn health in Tribal communities. Join Carolyn Roman, PhD, HS Associate Scientist and Research Manager with the University of New Mexico Community Environmental Health Program, as she shares perspectives on environmental health disparities and efforts to protect maternal and infant health across communities in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. The session will highlight research and community outreach within the Navajo Nation Birth Cohort Study, which examines how environmental contaminants like uranium from abandoned mines impact pregnant Navajo women and their children.
