Child Safety & Family Preservation Consultant

Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF)

Hannah Burton, LISW, JD

Hannah Burton is the Child Safety & Family Preservation Consultant at the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF). Hannah is the policy and practice lead on Plans of Safe Care and is focused on implementing a more proactive and family-centered response in Minnesota that improves health and safety outcomes for infants and their families. In her previous role as an Equal Justice Works legal fellow at Mitchell Hamline School of Law and Adult Representation Services, Hannah focused on providing preventative legal representation to help keep children and their families safe, healthy, and together. During law school, Hannah worked with an interdisciplinary team to represent parents and relatives in juvenile court, and on various policy changes to improve Minnesota’s child protection laws. Hannah has also worked directly with families as a licensed social worker for eight years in various roles within and adjacent to the child welfare system. Hannah’s clients and her family are her inspiration to continuously work toward a society where children and families are supported rather than harmed by systems and policies.
