The Equity Exchange: Combating Equity Fatigue + Weathering
July 25 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Join NICHQ as we explore the weathering hypothesis, equity and ally fatigue, and the challenges of both navigating racist and discriminatory systems and working to dismantle them. NICHQ VP of Health Equity Innovation Stacy Scott, PhD, MPA, will facilitate a panel discussion with MCH experts including:
Kezia Ofosu Atta, MPA, Owner, ICAD Consulting, LLC
Becky Russell, MSPH, VP Applied Research and Evaluation at NICHQ
Jacque Kellachan, MPH, Project Director at NICHQ
The weathering hypothesis suggests that the combined impact of racism, economic hardship, and resulting stress throughout a Black woman’s life deteriorates her health, increasing her susceptibility to adverse obstetric outcomes as she ages. Equity Fatigue and Ally Fatigue can arise from various factors and manifest themselves in different ways, such as persistent resistance to change, slow progress in change, and emotional and psychological toll on those in equity work. Join us for a Virtual Reception Room at closing, where you can interact with our panelists and other audience members!
