Stephen Contag, MD, Board Chair, University of Minnesota

Dr. Contag is an Associate Professor in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. He received his M.D.
from the Central University in Quito, Ecuador, and then relocated to the US in 2001. He completed a
residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN and subsequently a fellowship in
Maternal Fetal Medicine at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem NC. Prior to coming to the
University of Minnesota, Dr. Contag worked at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, and most recently at the
University of Maryland in the division of Maternal Fetal Medicine.

His works covers multiple aspects of Maternal Fetal Health. He is a member of the Minnesota Maternal
Mortality Review Committee as well as the Congenital Syphilis Review Committee. His research focuses
on the surveillance for fetal growth disorders and the impact of maternal comorbidities on fetal health.
He is a member of several medical journal editorial boards, he also participates actively with the
Institutional review Board at the University of Minnesota and has been a grant reviewer for the March
of Dimes.
