SUMMARY:Community of Learning: Perinatal Mental Health Conditions in the Outpatient Setting Session 4
DESCRIPTION:This six-part Community of Learning (CoL) series\, offered by the AIM TA Center and the Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health\, will support the effective implementation of the AIM Perinatal Mental Health Conditions (PMHC) Patient Safety Bundle with a focus on obstetric and other maternal health providers in the outpatient setting. The bundle helps healthcare leaders create systems for recognizing and responding to mental health conditions in pregnancy and during the postpartum period. The CoL will center those with lived experience and underscore the importance of implementation of clinical practice guidelines. Over the course of six 90-minute sessions\, participants will receive knowledge and tools to develop their own quality improvement (QI) activities to improve mental health outcomes\, including an understanding of HEDIS outpatient perinatal depression performance measures\, the unbundling of maternity care\, and potential partnership with insurers and Medicaid managed care. Each 60 minute CoL session will be followed by a optional 30 minute office hour with the PCMMH and AIM TA Center staff. \nSession 4: Payment Reform and Partnering with Health Plans\nDate: November 10\, 2026\, at 1 PM CT\nThis session examines emerging opportunities created by the transition away from bundled maternity payments and the implementation of new CPT maternity care codes beginning in 2027. Participants will explore how payment reform can strengthen maternal mental health screening\, treatment\, and follow-up\, as well as opportunities for collaboration with Medicaid managed care organizations and commercial health plans. \nSession 5: Quality Measurement\, HEDIS\, and Medicaid Accountability\nDate: December 8\, 2026\, at 1 PM CT\nMeasurement drives improvement. Participants will review current HEDIS prenatal and postpartum depression screening measures\, state performance variation\, and opportunities to strengthen data collection and reporting. Participants will gain practical insight into leveraging screening\, claims\, and quality dashboard data to support continuous quality improvement initiatives. \nSession 6: State Policy\, Rural Access\, and Scaling Change\nDate: January 12\, 2027\, at 1 PM CT\nThe final session will focus on translating improvement efforts into sustainable systems change. The session will highlight policy strategies that have successfully expanded maternal mental health services\, including in rural and underserved communities. The session concludes with a capstone planning activity in which participants will use state report cards\, county-level risk maps\, claims and HEDIS data\, and AIM assessments to identify actionable clinical and policy strategies for implementation in their own states and organizations.

DESCRIPTION:The MNPQC Rural Improving Maternal & Perinatal Access\, Care\, and Teamwork (IMPACT) Sprint brings together multidisciplinary individuals from rural and critical access hospitals to strengthen obstetric emergency readiness through evidence-based practices\, shared learning\, and quality improvement. Guided by the AIM’s Obstetric Emergency Readiness Resource Kit\, participants will gain practical tools and strategies to improve recognition\, response\, communication\, and transfer processes while building sustainable systems that support safe\, respectful\, and high-quality maternity care close to home. \nSession 3: Team Roles\, Communication & Drills\nDate: November 12\, 2026\, at 12 PM CT\nThis session will explore strategies to strengthen team coordination through clearly defined roles\, structured communication tools such as prebriefs\, huddles\, and debriefs\, as well as low-dose\, high-frequency simulation practices that build confidence and readiness. Participants will identify opportunities to improve role clarity within their own teams and engage in interactive activities designed to practice coordinated emergency response in a supportive learning environment. \nSession 4: Hemorrhage Readiness: Supplies & Systems\nDate: December 17\, 2026\, at 12 PM CT\nThis session will focus on strategies for standardizing hemorrhage readiness through organized hemorrhage carts\, timely access to first- and second-line medications and blood products\, and the use of checklists and visual aids to support clinical decision-making during emergencies. Participants will review practical examples from established quality improvement initiatives\, discuss approaches to optimizing supply organization within their own settings\, and collaborate on tools that promote consistent\, reliable emergency preparedness. \nSession 5: Response & Transfer Coordination\nDate: January 14\, 2027\, at 12 PM CT\nThis session will highlight evidence-informed strategies for the initial stabilization of obstetric hemorrhage\, hypertensive emergencies\, and sepsis\, while emphasizing structured communication and standardized transfer workflows. Participants will examine best practices for collaborating with emergency medical services (EMS) and referral centers\, and work together to develop practical tools—such as transfer checklists and transfer packets—that promote safe\, efficient transitions of care for pregnant and postpartum patients. \nSession 6: Sustainability\, Data\, & Culture\nDate: February 11\, 2027\, at 12 PM CT\nThis session will have participants examine approaches to measuring readiness through process and outcome measures\, fostering a culture of learning through structured debriefing\, and integrating evidence-based practices into routine care. Through shared learning and reflection\, teams will discuss lessons learned from their quality improvement work and identify strategies to sustain meaningful improvements in their organizations.
